Spring is a wonderful time to visit the wine country. The mustard and trees are in bloom and the vineyards start to bud. And of course, as always the wine is terrific!

Cool iPhone Tips and Gadgets

I recently picked up the iPhone Handbook magazine put out by MacLife. I discovered several tips that I found to be quite useful.

•I am a sloooooow text typer. I need all the tricks I can get to speed up. The first tip in their article 100 Essential Tips is When you're typing on the iPhone, press the spacebar twice in rapid succession to automatically add a period and a space to the end of your sentence and capitalize the next letter. It really is useful.

•I added my blog home page as an icon on my iPhone home page - just as if it was an app. Number 56 says ...if your favorite website doesn't have an app, you can still add its icon on your home screen. Just tap the + sign at the bottom of a webpage and choose Add to Home Screen. Cool.

•The HYmini is definitely on my gadgets I want list. What is a HYmini? It's a hybrid mini green power station that fits in the palm of your hand and powers your digital gadgets. We're talking wind power, solar power...

I can't believe the month is nearly over and I haven't listed my top ten tips from my favorite magazines. I have to say I love this monthly post. It gives me the excuse to buy terrific magazines every month.

4. I was on a plane to Nashville when I read this tip. You would think I would have read it in a local wine country magazine. Southern Living suggests using thin grape vines wrapped around inside of a vase to hold flowers in place. It even looks great in a clear vase.

5. Some great traditional southern recipes including Easy Chicken Gumbo, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Stir and Roll Biscuits.

9. How to Gild A Chair was my favorite idea. You prepare the chair, create a sticky base and ad the metal leaf. I never thought of gold or silver leafing a chair before. Definitely on my to do list.

10. I also liked the article 12 tips for creating the perfect workspace. 1. Oversize your desk. 2. Escape the wall. 3. Invest in a great seat. 4. Use task lighting. 5. Focus beyond the desk. 6. Declutter the electronics. 7. Have a space for your everyday stuff. 8. Winnow down the pens and pencils. 9. Decorate with photos that motivate, not distract. 10. Have a reading chair. 11. Choose wall colors that match your psychological needs. 12. Make it personal.

Do You Know CB2?

I recently visited CB2 (a Crate and Barrel connected store) in Berkeley. The pieces are modern with clean lines, natural materials, a limited color palette and reasonable prices. There currently are only 8 stores and we are lucky to have two of them here in the bay area.

I discovered a store full of fun pieces that would work well with my eclectic style. I wish I had room for a second couch. I really like that buttery yellow couch and think it would look terrific with the brown one I already have.

Woke Up in a Funk

Feeling kind of down this morning...Is it the grey skies? A messy house that needs some TLC? My garden that has the winter uglies? Me having the winter uglies? A to do list that seems to go on for miles?

I am about a 4 (see mood scale in left column under the clock). Time to go dance around my kitchen and see if I can't improve my mood before I hit my to do list.
